City Orientation and Maps

(Santiago de Compostela, Spain)

Without doubt one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Santiago de Compostela lies on the far north-western side of mainland Spain. Close to northern Portugal and the coastline, the city of Santiago de Compostela is surrounded by many places of interest. These include La Coruna, Oleiros and Carballo to the north, Vilagarcia De Aroua, Pontevedra and Vigo to the south, and the charming town of Lugo to the east, together with Outerio and O Pedrouzo, both of which are close to Santiago Airport (SCQ).

Santiago Airport (SCQ) Maps: Important City Districts

Santiago de Compostela is a small and historic city, with a population of around 80,000. The centre of the old town area is particularly compact and surrounds the 18th-century Catedral del Apóstol. Much of this area is well pedestrianised and contains the majority of the city's main monuments, shops, hotels and restaurants.

A modern shopping centre can be found on the southern side of Santiago de Compostela, bounded by the Praza de Galicia. Santiago's train station lies just a short walk from the city centre, to the north-east, with the bus station being located nearby. The city's tourist information office can be found along the Rúa do Vilar, alongside the regional center.
